SCARVES
Bab-al-Louq, downtown Cairo. On a rooftop near the centre of this vast city’s urban sprawl, a group of young athletes, street-cast, strike manly poses, in silk. Desirable, playful, collectible, voluptuous, these square scarves, printed in Italy, reproduce the Ancient Egyptian gymnastic motifs of Louis Barthélemy’s large khayamiya tapestries in squares that can be worn in as many ways as there are date palms in an oasis.
